March Desktop Freebie

Wow...March already! This year is just flying by. The great thing about turning that page on the calendar is that we are getting closer and closer to spring! Normally, spring isn't a very big deal because Florida has such mild winters but after seeing sleet, snow and record cold temps this winter spring is welcome to show up any time!

This month's desktop comes to you from CT member Tinkay2. She used Simplicity and I have to say that I am loving it! As soon as she sent it to me I put it up! There is no calendar on this one so you can use it anytime!

LOTW - Lets Meet Christina

Well, I have decided to give up on creating a specific schedule for these things, I am just not that organized! To change the pace a bit, I decided to choose a really fun layout.  This layout is designed by one of our newest members Christina.

This layout is made using one of Missy's older kits.  Sk8tr Punk, which we have seen a pleasant revival of its usuage, as spring draws around.

Christina has been married for 15 years. She has two boys, 12 and 11, 4 nephews and 3 neices, 2 are twins. She has always wanted to do scrapbooking to preserve memories. And at one point had even got supplies but she still hasn't done a layout. Finding it too over whelming. Recently, she joined cafemom and that is how she found out about digital scrap booking and has been hooked ever since. It has been about 2 years now. Being currently hooked, she just loves how she can manipulate the layouts the way she wants them. Though now that she has been working in digital she has been getting ideals on paper layouts:)

As with all my LOTWs.. I have to ask the designer some interesting questions to get to know them further.  So with no further ado....

Do prison buses have emergency exits?
Yes but only the guards or someone outside can open them. Wouldn't want them to escape.  Actually I though about that and looked that one up.

If parents say, "Never take candy from strangers" then why do we celebrate Halloween?
That is a good question, never really thought of it that way. I always take mine to the same subdivision every year.

Did Noah have woodpeckers on the ark? If he did, where did he keep them?
I am sure he did for he was to take two of every kind.  I would assume that they just stayed with the ark or he had a special spot for them with lots of metal. :)

When sign makers go on strike, is anything written on their signs?
Oh I am sure there is:) but then I guess they would not really be on strike.

Christina says she is just not quite sure of  her favorite Missys Bits products yet but is willing to recommend the two most recent kits she has used. Here they are (images are linked). I am sure they will soon be your favorites too!

Have a great week, enjoy the end of the Olympics!!  Do you Believe???

LOTW - This one is Special

Well, I am finally back on schedule and I got a special layout of the week! This one was designed by our own KATHRYN using Missy's most recent creations.. The ROMANCE page starters!!

Kathryn made this layout using a special image she had previously created a watercolor painting from, thinking the pagestarter was a perfect compliment she decided to use it here!  We are so lucky she did!!

Kathryn lives in Tampa, Florida with her long-time husband.  She is a mother of five children and grandmother of two. She  was blessed to be able to be a stay-at-home for most of her children's growing up years. More recently, she has worked as a project admin as a contractor. Her passion, however, is Photoshop, Flash and photography, current events and politics. She creates some incredibly moving layouts and has been a wonderful and enthusiastic member to our Creative Team.

As with all my LOTWs.. I have to ask the designer some interesting questions to get to know them further.  So with no further ado....

Doesn't a lightning rod on top of church show a lack of faith?
No, it is prudence in preparation for possibilities of providence.

If there's an exception to every rule, is there an exception to that rule?
Let's see, "Nothing is certain except for death and taxes." (Daniel Defoe). No exception there.

Can you "stare off into space" when you're in space?
Why, certainly, since Space is always 'out there.' There will always be more of "Space, the final frontier, where no man has gone before." Or something like that.

If you put a chameleon in a room full of mirrors, what color would it turn?
Actually, he would stay the same, unless there were a temperature or light variation, for those are what makes a chameleon change colors.

Kathryn has also told me her favorite Missys Bits products and here they are (images are linked). I am sure they will soon be your favorites too!

Have a great week, enjoy the Olympics!!!

LOTW - Better Late Than Never

Well, my second LOTW is late.. And of course happening a week later, but I feel it is well worth the wait.  Again this layout was made using Simplicity!!  This layout shows the versatility of this kit beautifully.  And was nominated LOTW recently on My Life and Scrap.

This week’s layout of the week is:

This gorgeous Layout was created by none other than our CRAFTUTEE (as she is known on most of the forums that have been blessed with her presence!!).  Michelle has been happily married for 27 years and has two great daughters, ages 22 and 18. She has been a paper crafter for several years and enjoys making handmade cards. She recently became interested in digital scrapbooking and has been focusing primarily on that as her artistic outlet since May 2009.  We are very lucky that she joined our team because her eye for detail and willingness to explore different ideas produce wonderful magical layouts.

As a fun way to get to know Michelle I sent her a few questions... Here are her answers..

If a kid refuses to sleep during nap time, are they guilty of resisting a rest?
I don't know if they are guilty of resisting a rest but they are guilty of pushing Mommy's buttons:)

If money doesn't grow on trees then why do banks have branches?
Umm, wait a minute - I thought money did grow on trees.

If laughter is the best medicine, who's the idiot who said they 'died laughing'?
The last guy who looked at these questions - LOL!

How come you never see a billboard being put up by the highway?
Hopefully 'cause you're too busy looking at the road.

If a bunch of cats jump on top of each other, is it still called a dog pile?
 No, it's called a cat-a-pillar:)

Ok, I have to admit, that last answer is my favourite and had me laughing for quite a while.  Well, welcome to the team Michelle!!  You have done some awesome work!  If you wish to learn more about Michelle or see more of her incredible layouts check out her blog.

On a side note Missy has some incredible layered masks available right now at DID.  Check them out they are perfect for those wedding, anniversary, or even the just because layouts where you want to show you care.

Thanks for popping by.  See you next week with another LOTW.

A little bit of Romance!

These new page starters were inspired by Valentines day! Of course, you could just as easily use them for any other event! Romance Page Starters are layered photo masks. Use these just like you would any other clipping mask. You can use the embellishment or even mix and match the masks with the embellishments for ulitmate versatility!

Right now they are only available at Designs In Digital.
Here are a few layouts from my awesome CT to inspire you:

Bumming....

My friend Ed once told me that if every American gave just a couple of hours a week of their time that our country's need for government run social services would drastically diminish. We were discussing a sociology class he was taking at the time and that thought has stuck with me. I don't know how true it is, but its an interesting perspective.
Well, for the last couple of years I have chaired a school supply drive through our builders association. We have helped 150-200 kids each year get the supplies they need to start school. We have focused on the families that didnt qualify for help from the county but needed an extra hand to get ready for school. Due to budgetary issues our school supply drive has been tabled. The sad thing is if we had a few extra hands, this wouldn't have to happen. But because our drive is so staff intensive and the funds aren't there to support the staff assistance, we have no choice but to cancel this year's drive. Between the lack of volunteer help and the need for local coordination to prevent double dipping, its just impossible for us to continue. It just breaks my heart that these kids may not get help this year because we arent able to lend a hand. The really sad thing is that if we had another 2 or 3 people we would each only have to work a couple of hours a week to make the drive happen without support from staff.
Maybe Ed wasn't too far off...
